21st Century Conservation Service Corps

We know that work and service are just as important in a young person's journey as discovery and play. In 2013, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell announced a national youth initiative "to pass on our nation's rich conservation legacy and to inspire millions of young people to play, learn, serve and work outdoors." A bold employment training and service component are part of this initiative, known as the 21st Century Conservation Service Corps (21CSC). 21CSC resonated with us at American Eagle Outfitters as a great way to further engage the next generation of outdoor stewards and nature enthusiasts. The more young people can explore the outdoors, the more they'll discover the wonder and beauty of public lands across the country. The Department of the Interior plans to provide ten million students with outdoor education programs, one million people with volunteer projects and 100,000 young people and veterans with work and training opportunities. American Eagle Outfitters was the first corporation to pledge $1M to support this exciting initiative over the next four years.

It's our hope that these conservation experiences show students just how much land there is to explore and how many fragile parts of our planet need their passion and protection.

"American Eagle Outfitters has a long history of philanthropy, conservation and volunteerism, and I applaud them for this unprecedented commitment to the youth initiative. The funding lays a strong foundation toward reaching Interior's goals to provide positive experiences for young people and veterans on our public lands that offer both employment and meaningful connections to the outdoors."
- Secretary Sally Jewell,
U.S. Secretary of the Interior
