Teach For America

Teach For America (TFA) is a national nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and develops a diverse corps of college graduates and professionals who commit to teach for two years and become lifelong leaders in ongoing efforts to end educational disparity in low-income communities. Today, more than 11,000 Teach For America corps members are reaching more than 750,000 kids in under-resourced communities, guiding them on the path to and through college. Another 32,000 alumni continue to work inside and outside the classroom to combat poverty through education.

In 2013, American Eagle Outfitters associates voted to partner with Teach For America, recognizing the huge impact TFA teachers and alumni make in partnership with the communities in which they live and work. In our first year with Teach For America, American Eagle Outfitters contributed more than $400,000 in cash and in-kind donations. We launched our partnership with a Back to School jeans campaign in our stores, donating $1 for every pair of jeans sold during a week in July. We also provided 1,500 students from low-income communities with back-to-school toolkits, including backpacks and school supplies. Finally, we invited 500 TFA teachers and students to our stores throughout the U.S. for shopping sprees to start off the new school year looking and feeling their best.

"Teach For America is so grateful for our partnership with American Eagle Outfitters and its support of teachers and students. American Eagle Outfitters' generous financial contribution fueled Teach For America's work, in partnership with local communities, to expand educational opportunities for more students and it helped draw attention to the potential for all students to succeed. Additionally, the in-kind resources provided by American Eagle Outfitters - from boxes upon boxes of school supplies to backpacks and shopping sprees - made an immense impact on our students. Not only did our students receive much needed resources, but they felt the support and love of their local community - which is priceless."
