How to make a waterfall braid

Looking for a quick and simple Valentine’s Day hairdo? Look no further than the romantic waterfall braid. There is nothing to this braid if you’re already familiar with how to french braid your hair! We asked our studio hair stylist, Julie M. to give us the inside scoop. Follow her tips below to learn how to style the waterfall braid like a pro in no time!

Step 1: Decide where you you want your braid to begin. Then, start with 1 – 1” section of hair and divide it into 3 strands.

Step 2: Start a basic three strand braid. Do this at least one full pass so that your braid is secure.

Step 3: Next, like a traditional french braid you’ll always be adding hair to that top strand, although the difference is at the bottom — instead of adding in hair to that strand, drop that piece. Once that piece is dropped, pick up a little hair in it’s place to continue the braid like a french.

Step 4: Moving along your head, keep adding hair to the top and always dropping out the bottom piece to create waterfall effect.

Step 5: When you reached the desired part where you’d like to stop, you can do a traditional three strand braid down to bottom, put a small elastic in first to secure, then bobby pin.  Or like shown below, just bobby pin in place.

There are different variations of this so play around and see what you like best!
